Joseph Capriati enlists DJ Stingray, Dave Clarke, Masters At Work, Mathew Jonson and more for ‘Metamorfosi Remixes’, a multi-volume release of remixes of the Neapolitan’s 2020 LP, ‘Metamorfosi’.
Released throughout 2021 and culminating in a limited edition triple vinyl package, the project begins with DJ Stingray, Frank Wiedemann & Toto Chiavetta, Gaetano Parisio, Oxia, and Steve Rachmad, stepping up for ‘Metamorfosi Remixes Vol. 1’, the first of four volumes and a compilation of remixes from the producer/DJ’s acclaimed 2020 LP, ‘Metamorfosi’. Further iterations will see the likes of Anna, Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Francois Kevorkian, Masters At Work, Mathew Jonson, and Sterac Electronics interpret Capriati’s works.
Opening Vol.1, Steve Rachmad turns in a version of ‘Psychic Journey’, a hypnotic and engaging trip that sees gentle synthesis unfurl across delicate drum patterns. The Eric Kupper and Bryon Stingily featuring ‘Love Changed Me’ sees a remix from Innervisions staples Frank Wiedemann & Toto Chiavetta. Drawing on UK Garage, the duo deploys skippy drums alongside vocal chops, weighty bass and airy stabs for a wholly fresh flip of the original.
Legendary fellow Neapolitan Gaetano Parisio turns in an electro-flecked remix of ‘Anything Is Possible’, bringing a dose of vocoders and crisp, punchy drums, an avenue also explored by electro titan DJ Stingray, who draws for darker palettes on his remix of ‘Psychic Journey’. France’s Oxia transforms ‘Beautiful Morning’ into a flowing trance-inducing delight, and rounding out the release is Steve Rachmad’s delicate take on ‘Love Changed Me’. Utilising tight, crunching percussion and an elastic bassline that coasts effortlessly underneath Stingily’s soaring vocals, the package sets a high standard for the rest of the remixes to follow.
